Open source software

Question number0917/2010
Meeting date17/03/2010

Question by Darren Johnson

Given that the GovernmentÂ’s open source action plan requiring the use of open source software wherever there is no significant overall cost difference was first published in 2004, that open source software can provide significant cost savings at a time of constrained budgets, and that your answer to question 696/2010 shows slow progress in some of the functional bodies, will you ask the functional bodies and the GLA to develop and publish open source action plans?

Answer by Boris Johnson (1st Term)

The GLA Group is committed to, and will continue to promote, the greater use of Open Source Technologies.

The GLA Group Chief Executives will review the Open Source plans of all the functional bodies with a view to encouraging greater take-up and increasing the level of savings.
